Good Chemistry

ART AND SCIENCE WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOL GROUPS & AT RISK YOUTH

Playing With Fire is proud of its public outreach initiative Good Chemistry and is planning to revive the program in the very near future.

School Groups

Operating out of the Playing With Fire studio, Good Chemistry welcomes school groups grades 3 to 8 from anywhere in Ontario. The workshop plan is comprised of a visit to the glass studio and the workshops activities support middle and elementary school art and science classes. During your visit, the students will get an introduction to basic chemistry and physics in a glass studio, the science behind glass colour, and how science is applied to the art of blown glass.

At-Risk Youth Groups

We welcome all students between the ages of 14 and 18, enrolled in middle school or secondary school programs, as clients of youth service providers who work with homeless and street youth.

The workshop plan is comprised of a visit to the glass studio and the workshops are booked to support middle and high school art and science classes. During your visit, the students will get an introduction to basic chemistry and physics in a glass studio, the science behind glass colour, and how science is applied to the art of blown glass. Each student is tutored through an individual experience in handling molten glass. The result will be a small handmade piece to take home.
In 2017, Good Chemistry ran our at-risk youth programming with generous support from the Ontario Arts Council
